Searching the Internet for "Lutheran Church Wichita Dennis" got one hit
In 2004, over a decade later of the last murder, serial killer Rader contacted the police again. Rader asked them anonymously in another letter, whether it would be possible to track backthe owner of a floppy disk. The police denied. Rader then sent them a floppy disk with a Microsoft Word document. Based on the metadata of the Word document, the police knew his name: Dennis. In addition, a link to the Lutheran Church was included in the text. Subsequently, the police found after an internet search with the words "Lutheran Church Wichita Dennis" his family name: Rader.
Dennis Raders black Jeep Cherokee parked in his driveway
The police knew from previous investigations, that the BTK killer drove a black Jeep Cherokee. When a special squad went to the address of Dennis Rader, they saw the same car in the driveway: a black Jeep Cherokee. However, this was not yet enough evidence to prove Raders murder spree. The police then compared a saliva sample from Rader's daughter, a student from Kansas State University , from a previous hospital stay. The saliva sample resembled the extracted DNA trace under the fingernails of the last victim.
On the 25th of February 2005, Dennis Rader was arrested. He confessed to 10 murders. For each murder, he received a life sentence. The earliest release to freedom is the year 2180 that Rader can be released from prison.
